Let me first say that I am no biologist. I have no degree in such a field or any related ones. I do not profess to be and will openly admit that. However, I do not believe that this disqualifies me from discussing something such as evolution because I’m not getting to delve terribly deeply into the theory itself in this blog. I’m just going to go over misunderstandings regarding the theory of evolution that greatly irk me. And it’s very easy to get your head around. I hope to do a similar blog to this one regarding misconceptions about atheism, but for now let’s stick to this.
So, evolution, eh? Haven’t much discussed that yet in blogs. I went into a little bit in one of my “Some Thoughts” blogs. It’s funny how I don’t even really think about it. I just take it as a given that everyone reading that blog would believe in evolution. I just forget that there are actually people in the world who don’t believe in such a thing. Most of these people seem not to accept evolution on some sort of religious basis. Personally, I think that’s completely ridiculous, but I’m not going to get into that; people get too touchy. Here shall follow some common arguments against evolution and my rebuttals against them.

The advertising for Edge of Darkness seemed to bill it as a spiritual successor to last January’s surprise breakout hit, Liam Neeson’s Taken. Edge, a gritty action thriller released in January starring an older hero still capable of kicking ass would undoubtedly draw comparisons with Taken. However, Mel Gibson’s first starring role in over seven years isn’t nearly as fun, enjoyable or, dare I say it, believable as the Liam Neeson adventure.

Finally, I have finished one Harry Potter book. So I figure people often compare the works of J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer. I will talk about both The Deathly Hallows and Breaking Dawn which are the last two installments of the series. Twilight was supposed to be the next Harry Potter. Well, if you didn’t know already the comparison is laughable. The closest similarities these books have is the number of pages(Harry Potter 759, Breaking Dawn 756). Rowling’s imagination is much more creative and she leaves no questions unanswered. This whole post is going to be filled with spoilers so if you didn’t read these books and are interested don’t read this post. Read the rest of this entry »

Big surprise here. Avatar’s on top again. Truth be told, I find myself almost tired of talking about it, but that’s not to say I’m not still utterly amazed at its run. Aside from what will soon be the biggest movie of all time (arguably) the weekend was actually fairly strong, especially for early January. Let’s dive in!
Avatar

Avatar passed out The Dark Knight this weekend and it still shows absolutely no signs of slowing down. The legs on this picture are simply astounding. I’ve already seen it twice, but I kind of want to go for a third time. I really loved this movie, more than I probably should. Anyway, Avatar fell just 16% down to 36 million. These are some of the best legs we’ve seen this decade. And for a film on the scale of Avatar, it’s downright unheard of. With a total now of 553 million, Avatar still has a lot of life left. If it holds like this again, it’ll make about 25 million next weekend, 18-20 the weekend after and then it should receive a nice healthy boost on President’s weekend and could make about 24 or so. Add in weekday grosses and it’s up around 640 million. So 700 million is definitely a possibility. That’s a number I never thought would be achieved. Leave it to James Cameron.

Can we get a good game? Can we get a good game? The only good game in the playoffs was the Cardinals vs. Packers. The rest have been blowouts and disgusting gameplay. Anyway the Vikings, Saints, Colts, and Jets advance. The Jets? The Jets? The Jets? I still don’t believe it. Let’s break it down. Read the rest of this entry »

Wow, would you really believe that it’s been over four months since I’ve blogged about Dragonball Z? It’s been all about Avatar and philosophy and shit lately? But who cares about that shit? We need to bring some DBZ back! Anyway, wasted potential is certainly something that is over abundant in Dragonball Z, so I’m going to count down the ten characters with the most, the characters who could’ve done so much more, but for whatever reason, they get cast to the side and never reach their full potential. It’s a shame. Dragonball Z is a show with lots of interesting concepts and ideas, too many of much aren’t really fully explored. Oh well. It doesn’t really make me love it any less. On to the list!

Well I haven’t contributed to this site in the longest time. I have a few minutes before class so I decided to write about my favorite thing- Music. I promised a while ago to write about the Socratic Society at Marywood. I still plan on doing this but I decided to wait until the first meeting of the semester. Until then I wanted to share some thoughts about musicians who I would like to see live and why. By doing this I hope I introduce some musicians that aren’t mainstream in pop music today. I know that most of these people are acquired tastes but don’t knock ‘em ’til you listen to ‘em. (them)

Before you talk about Paul Johnson as a coach you have to talk about him as a person because that’s really the most important thing. As much I talked to him off the court he seemed like a nice guy. When we made the team he took us out to a team dinner. He would also come to team parties that were held after practice at the Weber house(They fed us. We liked that) every once and a while.
