The Lord of the Rings: Conquest Review

by Flash427

The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is a Fantasy Action Adventure, and unless you absolutely love the LOTR series, or have some friends to play with, odds are this game will not entertain you for long. The game brings you in with its cut scenes right from the start. Taking actual clips and sounds from the films adds to the LOTR feel as you fight in the battles for Middle Earth. You can play as an archer, knight, mage, or scout, and also their “Hero” equivalences. The game walks you through the controls and it uses a narrator, whose voice will cause you to hate him. After getting past that however, the game starts off fun. The battle system and the battles themselves can be extremely entertaining, except for some minor glitches that get in the way. Dying is an all too common thing to come across. You can die from almost anything and at times without even knowing how you met your demise. Backing up for cover from archer fire, just may cause you to leap off the edge of a cliff.

The game itself varies in difficulty. In some situations you may find yourself shooting arrows with your archer and not have a care in the world, while other times you a being rushed by armies who seem to not see anyone but yourself. Each character has a unique ability list which is entertaining to master, and makes it even more enjoyable by allowing you to use characters such as Legolas, Gandalf, and trolls. Each level unlocks a new character and it makes the levels that much more fun. You play as either the good guys in the classic storyline, or you can play in a version that gives a twist to the storyline. You play as Sauron’s army and the chain of events that would ensue if Frodo didn’t destroy the ring. Another positive factor for the game is it’s multiplayer. You can play the campaigns with a friend, play against your friends all on the same counsel, or play in various modes online with friends. In each mode, you learn that it’s best to work as a team, no matter what the game type.

Overall, the game did not live up to what was hoped for, but still was enjoyable. The Lord of the Rings: Conquest gets a 3 out of 5 Chezwicks.
