Innovative Developer Cing Files for Bankruptcy

Evil anthropormorphic mushrooms? Seems to be a recurring Japanese theme... but count me in! (Little King's Story, Wii)

It has been a sad day on March 1, 2010 for Japanese developer Cing. The developers of underground treasures such as Hotel Dusk: Room 215 and Little King’s Story have suffered losses of 2.5 million USD. It’s sad to see the economic downturn affect small developers in such a brash way. Since the global economy has been in a down-turn, only big titles are still reaping in the profits because consumers do not have the spare cash to spend on more innovate, indie titles. Sadly, Cing was a developer of said titles.

Last Window: Midnight Promise is the still-yet-to-be-localized sequel to Cing’s acclaimed Hotel Dusk: Room 215, an innovative, point-and-click mystery novel/game. Its future in America is uncertain as of right now. The Hotel Dusk series was genre revitalizing and it really took the DS in new directions. It is sad to see small companies like this get shut down in favor of big name franchises like Call of Duty and Madden. It is out of our hands, unless you have 2.5 million USD. Sigh…
