Ouch, James Cameron, that HURTS

James Cameron lost to his ex-wife, Kathryn Bigelow, at the Oscars. Bigelow took home the Oscar for best director(The Hurt Locker). This made her the first woman ever to win the award. Also, The Hurt Locker won best picture. Besides those two awards, The Hurt Locker was nominated for seven others and took home four of those seven Oscars. Congratulations Kathryn Bigelow!!! Besides becoming the first woman ever to win the award, she beat her ex-husband in the process. THANK YOU ACADEMY FOR NOT SCREWING UP!! Avatar was a fantastic film but it didn’t deserve best picture over The Hurt Locker. Avatar was only in the running for its tremendous visual. The story was not worthy. The acting was not worthy. The fact it’s the highest grossing movie of all-time probably helped its chances as well. The Hurt Locker had everything Avatar was missing that was necessary to win the award. It had a superb acting performance from Jeremy Renner, who was nominated for best actor. I wish he won but I’m sure Jeff Bridges did a great job in Crazy Heart even though I will probably never see it and have no interest in the movie. It had a great plot that truly opened the eyes of the American people. This is what our soldiers go through in Iraq. We don’t see the fighting and seeing things has a greater impact on humans. Hearing things and seeing statistics just doesn’t hit us that hard. So I praise Kathryn Bigelow for bringing this film together and again congratulate her on becoming the first woman ever to win an Oscar for best director.

It’s also nice to see Summit Entertainment pick up a movie other than the Twilight Saga and random romantic movies that three people will see. Well three people will still see The Hurt Locker but at least it’s an Oscar winner.

James Cameron took the loss like a man and was the first to stand after his ex-wife won the award. I honestly don’t think he cares considering his movie has made about a couple billion dollars and some change(worldwide) more than The Hurt Locker. I’ll leave the praising of James Cameron to ssjrem.

I already mentioned Jeff Bridges won best actor. Sandra Bullock won best actress for her role in The Blind Side. I didn’t think she’d win but why not. Mo’nique won best supporting actress for her role in Precious. Then she thanked the Academy for looking at the performances and staying away from the politics(I wonder who she was taking a shot at). Finally, Christoph Waltz won best supporting actor for his role in Inglourious Basterds. He definitely deserved this award. His portrayal as Hans Landa, “The Jew Hunter,” was extraordinary. I think he was pretty much a shoe-in for the award. Matt Damon wasn’t going to win even though he did a nice job in Invictus.

As for the show itself the Oscars felt rushed even though it was three and a half hours long. Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin were funny at times but the show was not spectacular and ultimately became boring in the middle when the “nobody cares awards” were given out. Best picture was announced by Tom Hanks and there was no build up. He pretty much just walked up and said “and the Oscar goes to The Hurt Locker.” It was weird.

Samuel L. Jackson was there and he opened for a little preview of Up. I gave a fist-pump when I heard his name being announced. Kristen Stewart was there with oh who cares Kristen Stewart was there. She helped open for the horror movie tribute with…ok Taylor Lautner.

None of the awards angered me. I thought everyone deserved the award he or she received. This is probably the only time you can ever say Kathryn Bigelow > James Cameron.
